Café culture
Around Jemaâ el Fna there are lots of cafés which exist primarily because of their terraces overlooking the square. None are licensed, and none would be great cafés in other locations, but they are all rightfully popular, especially late in the afternoon, for the opportunity they offer to survey the frenzy below from the relative calm of a terrace. As a response to the hordes of tourists coming up to these cafés just to take photos, many will only let you onto their terraces after youâve bought a drink.
